Cowboys Don’t Have Curls — the natural wine project of winemaker Dave Morris and grower George Price, using organically farmed Pinot Noir from Mayland Vineyard in Somerset to make detailed, low-intervention English wines.
Winemaking:
Organic Pinot Noir harvested by hand; whole-bunch direct press to make a white from red grapes; wild yeast fermentation; aged ~9 months in old barrels; bottled unfined, unfiltered with just a touch of sulphur.
Name Meaning:
“Blanc on Blonde” is a playful wink at a white wine made from red grapes — pale, light and easygoing, more about fun than fuss.
Interesting Fact:
This was originally intended as a base wine for a sparkling, but it tasted so good that the plan changed and it was bottled as a still white instead.
Serve With:
Salt-and-vinegar crisps, oysters, whitebait, ceviche, grilled prawns, or as your first, ice-cold bottle of the night.
When to drink at Christmas: To welcome guests with – baffle them with a white Pinot Noir, then leave them to enjoy the fresh start to lunch
