You asked, we listened. Then got planning. After our wine trip to Italy in April, a big bunch of you said you wished you could have been there. It’s time to put your money where your mouth is because we want to retrace our steps but this time take six of you with us for what promises to be a giddy four days in Venice, Friuli and over the boarder in Slovenia with the unique opportunity to meet and drink with the winemakers themselves.
It’s hard to top an afternoon in Venice, one of the most magical cities in the world but we’ll give it a good go – an evening munching chiccetti and tasting 4 wines plucked off the shelves of our fav Venice wine bar. It’s a KASK Wine Tasting in someone else’s bar! Your hosts for the Tasting (and for the whole trip) will be KASK’s Charlie, and owner of Bristol-based wine importer Spiegel & Peach, Maddie.
After a morning exploring more of Venice, we’ll travel east to Friuli, the mystical region on the Italy/Slovenia border. Stopping off in the picturesque small town of Cividale del Friuli (founded in 50BC by Julius Ceasar), you may want to stroll across the Ponte del Diavolo (Devil’s Bridge) or sit in the square with aspritz, before we end the day with dinner in our hotel in the village of Prepotto, home of your new favourite grape, Schioppettino.
The treat that others can’t offer – a day spent in the warm company of Daniele and Tanika of Vigna Lenuzza. There is nothing quite like spending time with a winemaker, exploring their vineyards, getting a peek behind the curtain into their cellars, and having them pour their wine for you. Throughout the day we spent with them in April we wished some of you could have been there with us – now you can!
Looking out across the vines of Lenuzza, you’ll see the hillsides of Slovenia, so it feels rude not to pop across the border.
We’ll do so with a trip to the Edi Simcic winery for a tour, tasting, light lunch and fascinating insight into the history of Slovenian winemaking. Then it’s the drive back to Venice in time for the plane home – or for you to continue your adventures in Italy.
