Indigenously Malvasia by Lenuzza

Location: Colli Orientali del Friuli, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy
Grapes: 100% Malvasia (old-vine)
Style: Still White / Skin-contact / Natural-leaning / Golden-white / 13.5% ABV

beautifully aromatic / dried mango, peach skin, musky herbs | textural from 12 days skin-contact

Winemaker(s): Vigna Lenuzza — a small, family-run estate in Prepotto focused on expressing local terroir and traditional varietals. Their “Indigenously” line is built on respect for local soils and growers’ heritage; old-vine Malvasia is treated with minimal intervention to let the grape express itself naturally

Winemaking: 100% Malvasia, from 60+–year-old vines; grapes undergo extended skin contact (~15 days) to draw structure, texture and phenolics. Fermented naturally (indigenous yeasts), raised in cement eggs, unfined/unfiltered; minimal added sulphur. Aged ~12 months before bottling.

Name Meaning: “Indigenously” — a nod to the native heritage of the grape (Malvasia) and the traditional, low-intervention winemaking approach that honours the land and vines of Friuli.

Interesting Fact: Vigna Lenuzza works with some of the oldest Malvasia vines around; this wine demonstrates what an ancient grape from Friuli can be when given space and respect — complex, textured, aromatic, and far from generic.

Serve With: Rich seafood (squid-ink risotto, cuttlefish), shellfish, grilled fish, vegetable-based Mediterranean dishes, aged cheeses (e.g. Taleggio), or any dish needing a lively yet textured white with herbal fruit depth.

When to drink at Christmas: For something to pique interest in the lull between Christmas and New Year
